Put the Holy Spirit to work
EXHORTATION according to THE BOOK OF LIFE
Scripture to ponder on:
“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
Ephesians 4:29-30 NKJV
“Do not let any corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building others up according to their needs, that it may give grace to those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
Ephesians 4:29-30 (LSG)
PUT THE HOLY SPIRIT TO WORK
Today's passage is taken from the letter addressed by the Apostle Paul to the inhabitants of Ephesus. These verses are even more relevant in our time, when Christians and non-Christians alike are subjected to all kinds of pressures (media, society, etc.). This passage invites us to speak only words of gracious edification.
Why is this? Observe that in the lives of some Christians, when faced with adversity, instead of responding with gentle words, they are carried away by their emotions and utter words that reinforce not God's work in their lives and those of their families, but rather the work of the devil (Proverbs 18:21). For, influenced by btheir surroundings, poison flows from their mouths, and breakthroughs are fleeting.
You see, in this world, we Christians, like you and me, have a duty to serve as the salt or the thermostat with our words, filled with God's undeserved favor. This is to allow the Holy Spirit to manifest the victory of Jesus. Know that the words we speak, return either to reinforce anger or to seal peace, and both have opposite consequences.
When you are upset by someone, your duty is to remember that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and to respond with gentle words. It is written: “The reckless pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing” (Proverbs 12:18). Beloved, you are made in the image of God. You are a new creation. You are a child of God. You are redeemed by the precious blood (life) of the Lord Jesus Christ (Galatians 4:4-7). So wherever you are, know that the angels are waiting for your instructions to manifest the victory of the Lord Jesus Christ in you and around you.
