The Holy Spirit
EXHORTATION through the BOOK OF LIFE
Scripture to ponder on
“And, in like manner also, the Spirit doth help our weaknesses; for, what we may pray for, as it behoveth [us], we have not known, but the Spirit himself doth make intercession for us with groanings unutterable,”
Romans 8:26 YLT98
THE HOLY SPIRIT
As long as you live on this earth, you will face a weakness. What is it? The body of flesh and blood in which you live. It is a body subject to death. A body subject to the physical world around you.
Your renewed spirit does not want to sin. It wants to manifest its divine content from the inside out. But the weakness of the flesh causes you to fall prey to the temptations surrounding you.
Does this mean you are condemned to a life of failure until Jesus returns and this body of flesh is glorified?
No! It means you must strengthen your spirit until it dominates your flesh. We are told to crucify the flesh. Your spirit must dominate your body. Praying by the Holy Spirit applies the spirit to the flesh (Jude 20). This causes your spirit to rise up and take charge. Just as using dumbbells strengthens your arms, praying in tongues strengthens your spirit. You see, your spirit is more powerful than your flesh, and as you strengthen it, the flesh will simply have to yield to it.
Most Christians do not understand this. They are overwhelmed by the world, and to escape this trap, they use human methods—only to end up failing again and again.
If you are caught in this cycle, take heart! God has not commanded you to be more spiritual than you are capable of being. He knows your weakness and has provided a way to overcome it. He has given you the ability to pray in tongues—and, with understanding, to wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. And no matter how much you may have failed in the past, from now on you will do mighty exploits!
So, renew your commitment to pray in the Spirit today. Make a firm decision to follow the command God gives in Jude 20: "But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit."
