Put the Holy Spirit in Charge
EXHORTATION through the BOOK OF LIFE
Scripture to ponder on:
“And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered;”
Romans 8:26 ASV
PUT THE HOLY SPIRIT IN CHARGE
As long as you live on this earth, you will face weakness. What is it? The body of flesh and blood in which you live. It is a body that is subject to death. A body that is subject to the physical world around you.
Your renewed spirit does not want to sin. It wants to be completely obedient to God. But the weakness of the flesh makes you fall prey to the temptations that surround you.
Does this mean you're doomed to a life of failure until Jesus returns and this physical body is glorified?
No! It means you must strengthen your spirit until it overcomes your flesh. We are told to crucify the flesh. Your spirit must rule your body. Praying in the Holy Spirit applies the Spirit to the flesh (Jude 20). It causes your spirit to rise up and take control. Just as using weights strengthens your arms, praying in tongues strengthens your spirit. You see, your spirit is more powerful than your flesh, and as you strengthen it, the flesh will simply have to yield.
Most Christians don't understand this. They are overwhelmed by sin, and instead of overcoming it through God's means, such as praying in the Spirit, they simply continue to struggle to overcome it naturally. Therefore, they end up failing again and again.
If you are caught in this cycle, take heart! God did not command you to be more spiritual than you are capable of being. He knows your weakness and He has provided a way to overcome it. He has given you the ability to pray in tongues—and with the understanding, to wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. And no matter how badly you have failed, you will now accomplish great things as you pray in the Spirit!
Know, however, that Satan will try to dissuade you. He knows that once you have learned to align your flesh, he will no longer have a hold on your life. You will shut the door on him, and he will not be able to enter.
So renew your commitment to pray in the Spirit today. Make a quality decision to follow the command God gives in Jude 20: “But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.”
Jesus’ beloved !
