Fasting
EXHORTATION through the BOOK of LIFE
Scripture to ponder on
“Is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thy healing shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of Jehovah shall be thy rearward.”
Isaiah 58:6-8 ASV
FASTING
There are 2 kinds of fasting, one that transforms from the inside out, positioning your spirit for maximum sensitivity and one the second that leaves you hungry and weary, no closer to the Father!
Fasting is a powerful tool for sharpening spiritual peace, silencing the noise of the flesh and creating an internal environment where the Holy Spirit operates at full capacity. You fast to clear your receiver, you are quiet in your flesh so that your spirit which is connected to the Holy Spirit can hear, receive and operate without interference!
Think of it this way: your spirit is like a radio that is tuned to the frequency of Heaven, which is clear and strong. The Holy Spirit is transmitting 24/7 but there’s static on the frequency and that static
is your flesh - the demands of the senses, and so on. When the flesh is loud the signal from the spirit is faint.
Four practical elements of a godly fast:
• Intentionality: you start with a specific purpose, not to earn something from the Father. Might be a decision you need clarity on or a spiritual breakthrough, etc
Daniel 10:2-3 he fasted for a specific purpose.
• Type of fast: decide on the length and type of fast you want to take! Whether dry or with liquids.
• What you do during the fast: fill the space that food normally occupies with the word of God, prayer, listening, declaring your identity! Time spent in the secret place.
• Posture of faith: your confession should reflect the finished work of Christ, not the striving of a sinner trying to earn God’s favor.
Have a posture of confidence not condemnation, expectation not desperation, faith not fear. You can pray like this:
“Father, I thank You that I am Your child and that the Holy Spirit lives inside of me. I am not fasting to earn Your favor but to sharpen my ability to receive what You have already provided. Open the eyes of my spirit, reveal what You want to reveal. Speak Lord I am listening!!!”
When you come with confidence before your Father, He says in Isaiah 58:9 that you will call and He will answer!
